5 Things You Need For Everyday Oral Care-Hygiene

Dr. Singhal’s Tips On How To Maintain A Good Level Of Oral Hygiene

When it comes to good oral hygiene, a preventive approach is key to success. This is important in every stage of life, but especially the older you get. Neglecting your dental health as you age can have serious consequences, including premature aging of the smile (gum recession and/or tooth discoloration) and the need for extensive and expensive corrective procedures. The good news is that if you follow the simple preventive habits listed below earlier in life, it can help avoid these consequences.

Prevention Is The Key To Good Oral Hygiene

Dr. Shyamali Singhal says that achieving healthy teeth takes a lifetime of care. Even if you’ve been told that you have nice teeth, it’s crucial to take the right steps every day to take care of them and prevent problems. This involves getting the right oral care products, as well as being mindful of your daily habits.

Oral health begins with clean teeth. Keeping the area where your teeth meet your gums clean can prevent gum disease while keeping your tooth surfaces clean can help you stave off cavities and gum disease.

Schedule Regular Dental Checkups

As an adult, you are not immune to dental problems. In addition to maintaining a good home care routine, the best thing you can do is to schedule regular dental checkups and professional cleanings. You also have a variety of cosmetic options available, including orthodontics (braces), whitening (both in-office and at-home) and bonding (veneers).

When it comes to what products to use, that are safe and toxin-free, Dr. Singhal likes to start with some basic mouthwash, like Mouthwash Cranberry by Cleure, which is an alcohol and fluoride-free mouthwash with baking soda and xylitol. Most commercial mouthwash only masks bad breath with flavor and alcohol. Cleure alcohol and fluoride-free mouthwash with baking soda and xylitol are effective for a clean, fresh mouth. It also comes in cinnamon taste, in Mouthwash Cinnamon.

What Toothpaste To Use

Your mouth is home to entire communities of bacteria that are recycling your food and drinks. In the process, these bacteria can cause tooth decay in our mouths – by feeding on the sugars in the foods and drinks we consume to grow – then leaving behind the waste, in the form of a biofilm known as dental plaque. This plaque allows all those little recyclers to stick around your teeth longer until eventually, they make acids, which wear down the tooth enamel and cause cavities. The bacteria in the plaque that forms near the gums also produce toxic products that enter the gum tissues, causing gingivitis. If untreated, gingivitis may become periodontitis, a more serious disease where there are bone and tissue loss around the teeth.

This is where flossing and brushing comes in. Dr. Singhal suggests using Toothpaste - Original Without Flavor Dermatologists report toothpaste flavors containing the mint family, as one of the top allergens that result in inflammation and rash around the outside and inside of the mouth. Cleure is the #1 great tasting flavorless natural toothpaste without mint or menthol. With added dicalcium phosphate and xylitol to help reverse the initial stages of tooth decay and help with dry mouth. Cleure flavorless toothpaste is also excellent for sensitive teeth.

The Right Way To Brush

To get the best oral hygiene results from toothbrushing, use an electric toothbrush. If you’re using a manual toothbrush, hold it at a 45-degree angle to your gums. Use short, circular strokes to move the brush over each tooth. Be sure you brush your teeth at least twice a day, including the front and back sides of all your upper and lower teeth. Take enough time to do a thorough job—up to 2 minutes each. Also, gently brush your tongue to remove odor-causing bacteria that will help give you fresher breath. Replace your toothbrush every three months. Watch out for over brushing, which may result in receding gums.

To keep that fresh breath and the sense of cleanliness throughout the day, use Breath Spray. Cleure’s Natural Cinamon Breath Spray is a completely alcohol-free breath refresher made specifically to fight bacteria that cause bad breath while leaving a fresh and lasting taste in your mouth.

Preventing Tooth Decay

Oral hygiene is essential to prevent tooth decay and to maintain healthy teeth. Caring for teeth and gums is equally important at every stage of your life. Regardless of your age, see your dentist and hygienist twice each year and make time for a complete oral health care routine every day so that your smile is healthy well into your golden years.

But oral care doesn’t stop there. Our lips can get dry, creating discomfort. To avoid this, Dr. Singhal proposes using Lindi Lip Balm. Weather conditions can be harsh on your lips, so tuck a tub of lip balm into your pocket or purse so you’re prepared. Rich in Vitamin E and natural extracts to help soothe and provide a protective layer to parched lips. This non-greasy formula works double-duty to help keep nails and cuticles healthy and intact. After using on lips, simply work the balm into cuticles.
